Ramps are the most effective way to provide access to main building entrances and areas where people travel and conduct business. Aluminum ramps are a better solution than most other materials because they’re durable, lightweight, and virtually maintenance-free.

Portable ramps are also ideal for keeping your workplace safe when your employees regularly load and unload materials from ground level with a forklift and no loading dock.

At PrefabMetalStairs.com, we aim to provide you with information and reviews about code-compliant aluminum access solutions that will meet your business requirements for safety, portability, flexibility, ease of use and economy.

Aluminum Access Ramps

Advantages of Aluminum

Premium aluminum access systems are generally fabricated from 6000 series aluminum alloy with 6061-T6 for structural strength. The 6061 alloy, which incorporates silicon and magnesium, is a particularly good alternative to significantly heavier mild steel systems. Other advantages of aluminum include:

  • Lightweight and portable – One of aluminum’s most notable attributes is its high strength-to-weight ratio. Some alloys are as strong as mild steel but only 1/3 to 1/2 as heavy. This obviously gives you greater flexibility to move them easily from one place to another.
  • Strong – The mass and weight of aluminum is roughly 1/3 that of iron or copper. Although steel is tough and resilient, it typically can’t be pushed to the same extreme dimensional limits as aluminum, due to its malleability. Access system frame components can be extruded in one-piece sections, eliminating the need for mechanical joining. This makes them sturdier and less likely to loosen over time.
  • Durable – Aluminum is not affected by environmental conditions, e.g., rain, snow, UV rays, etc., so it will never split, warp or rot as wood does. In other words, aluminum is virtually weatherproof. And, unlike other metals, it’s non-corrosive and will remain rust-free.
  • Safe –Aluminum has superb thermal conductivity. Access ramps perform well in cold weather but stay cool to the touch at all times, an asset from a safety standpoint.
  • Low Maintenance – Aluminum ramps and walkways require no scraping, sanding, painting or staining to maintain them, and never need to be refinished.

Ramp Applications

Portable ramps, threshold ramps, concrete deck ramps, and other types of ramps are becoming more and more crucial for providing safe access to your building, jobsite or recreational property. The number of aging baby boomers is growing, and many of them have conditions that leave them with restricted mobility.

Aluminum ramps are also extremely valuable on natural gas and oil mining sites, such as those in the Permian Basin, Fayetteville Shale, Marcellus Shale, and throughout Houston and Midland, TX, where workers are required to move heavy boulders or haul equipment that exceeds 350,000 pounds.

Another essential product is the heavy-duty crossover ramp that protects fracking hoses and prevents punctures that could cause environmental contamination, as well as all of the cables, hoses and wires that may obstruct the path of heavy vehicles.

When selecting access products for site-built and modular buildings, consider the durability, strength and versatility that aluminum offers. If you need building access ramps, ADA-compliant wheelchair ramps, or other industrial walkways, platforms or stairs, REDD Team is a national leader in premium quality access solutions that are made in the USA.
